How does the world see Santa Clara University?

How do we see Santa Clara University?

These are two of the fundamental questions being asked when developing our identity as current students at SCU and members of this large and historic community.

This archive was created by the students in Professor Amy Lueck’s ENG103: Topics in Writing and Rhetoric course. In this course, students were asked to create an archival research project that answers a relevant question about Santa Clara University. As students in this class, we were given total freedom in choosing our topics. What would our fellow students actually want to know the answers to? Is there a question we would want to devote the next 9 weeks of our quarter in researching? As a class, we examined different major transitions in the history of Santa Clara University that have shaped its culture and reputation. We each maneuvered through different subtopics about Santa Clara University, aiming to delve deeper into these social and cultural issues regarding the school community. We are looking at how the surrounding, shifting community has affected college life, and how these changes impacted student life and academia. Our purpose is to uncover Santa Clara University’s history and how it has transformed into the community it is today. From the perspective of various, current students, then, this archive attempts to represent the progress of this historical school and the students it has shaped. If you’ve got questions, this collection has the answers: from Greek life, football teams, the fall of the arts and sciences to diversity and scholarships, this archive has you covered. Through these collections and exhibits, we hope to bring about topical and poignant discussions with our fellow community members to answer the question “What makes Santa Clara University, Santa Clara University?”
